Our History
Following graduation from college, Barbara and Duane Trythall
left their native Rocky Mountains to begin their careers. Duane’s
Chemical Engineering degree landed him a job with a Fortune 100
company. They moved to the steamy Gulf Coast where Duane worked
as an engineer in an oil refinery while Barbara taught second
grade and later kindergarten.
In 1970 on a New York-bound flight, Duane met the President of
Dunhill Personnel Systems, Inc. After a compelling discussion,
followed by a personal visit to the corporate headquarters in New
York,
Duane was convinced a franchise opportunity was worth serious consideration.
Barbara was equally convinced. At age 25, they were the youngest
team to have been approved for the purchase of a Dunhill franchise.
After 19 years, the Trythalls bought out their Dunhill franchise
contracts to create the independent organization now known as Excel
Staffing Companies.
Barb and Duane decided to locate their new executive search business
in Albuquerque after also considering Denver and Salt Lake City.
They selected Albuquerque because of the strong technology base,
superb quality of life, and proximity to the outdoor activities
they still enjoy – skiing, hiking and fishing.
